The Pretty Shames are a stripped down, electric, two-piece that draw on elements of goth and blues with distorted punk rock abandon.

Vanessa Veselka (guitar and vox) and her daughter Violet Luna (drums) began playing together out of desperation during covid quarantine, and from the beginning, their sonic connection and fiery chemistry was apparent. Veselka’s vocals move from low, velvety tones to wailing, evoking singers like PJ Harvey and Courtney Barnett. Her guitar has the cutting midrange of Daniel Ash, the feedback of Warren Ellis, and the Texas sprawl Billy Gibbons. Combined with Violet’s creative and passionate drumming, The Pretty Shames are an electrifying mother-daughter power duo.
